Doug came to The 24 in 2022 ready to recover and embrace A Brand New Start.

How did you get started with drugs and alcohol? I started drinking when I was 12 or 13. For 40 years, I was an alcoholic. It was easy for me back then. The legal drinking age was 18. I was an athlete and felt respected. No one really saw what was happening.
How did you end up at Dallas 24 Hour Club?
I ended up in jail for a brief time. While I was there, my son found The 24. He knew when I was released that this is where I should come. So this is where I came, and it has forever shaped me into a better person.
What does Recovery mean to you?
Alcohol is something I don’t think about anymore. I have a higher power that shapes my life. I had an awakening and have not wanted alcohol in over three years.
What is your greatest achievement? My sobriety and repairing my relationship with my family.
What is your greatest blessing? My children are my greatest blessing.
What did The 24 do for you? The 24 completely gave me a new structure to build a sober life. I finally was held accountable. I wanted to make every day count.
What is one thing you want people to know?
If you have an addiction, do the work that is outlined in the “Big Book.” It will save and change your life.
Where are you today? I am working a valued job in a company that is thriving. I am a Vice President and travel all the time. I don’t feel the need or want to drink, even when I’m out with clients.
