A New Beginning at the Dallas 24 Hour Club
Miguel grew up just blocks away from the Dallas 24 Hour Club. For most of his life, it was simply “the place with the big pancakes.” He never imagined it would one day help him rebuild a life he never thought possible.
From the age of 13, Miguel was trapped in a cycle of addiction, incarceration, and survival on the streets. With around 30 felony convictions and multiple stints in federal prison, his heroin habit began in middle school. He believed the only futures available to people like him were jail, death, or the streets.
“I didn’t want to die,” he says. “But I didn’t want to wake up either.”

The Turning Point
Everything changed the day he walked 1.5 miles from a train station, broken and desperate, to the front door of The 24. He had just been kicked out of treatment and could feel himself slipping back into old patterns. With nowhere else to turn, Miguel finally surrendered—not just to recovery, but to the possibility of a different life.
“For the first time in almost 20 years, I started talking to God. I told Him, ‘I don’t know what surrender looks like, but I’m tired. And I’m all in.’”
A Life Transformed
Since that day, Miguel’s life has been transformed. He’s been sober for a year. He’s working a job that gets his hands dirty—honest work he’s proud of. He bought a car, repaired relationships with his family, and recently moved out of Tillman House to live with his grandmother, so he can help care for her.
Every Tuesday, Miguel returns to Cenikor, the same place he was once kicked out of, to carry the message of recovery to others still struggling. But perhaps most incredibly, he’s become a source of hope in his old East Dallas neighborhood—the very streets where he once felt lost.
“I came here to get my life together,” he says. “And I did. I’ve had a spiritual awakening. And I’m not the same man I used to be.”

The Importance of Community Support
Community support plays a crucial role in recovery. It provides a network of encouragement and understanding. At the Dallas 24 Hour Club, individuals like Miguel find a safe space to share their experiences and learn from one another. This sense of belonging is vital for those on the path to sobriety.
Building Connections
Building connections with others who understand the struggle can be incredibly healing. Miguel’s journey illustrates how important it is to have a support system. He not only found friends at the Dallas 24 Hour Club but also mentors who guided him through his recovery. These relationships have helped him stay accountable and motivated.
Sharing the Message of Hope
Miguel’s return to Cenikor is more than just a visit; it’s a commitment to sharing hope. By telling his story, he inspires others who may feel trapped in their circumstances. His message is clear: recovery is possible, and a fulfilling life awaits those who seek it.
Embracing Change
Change can be daunting, but it is also necessary for growth. Miguel embraced change when he walked through the doors of the Dallas 24 Hour Club. He learned to let go of his past and focus on the future. This shift in mindset has been pivotal in his recovery journey.
Setting Goals for the Future
Setting goals is an essential part of recovery. Miguel has set personal and professional goals that keep him focused. He dreams of furthering his education and helping others in their recovery journeys. Each small step he takes brings him closer to those dreams.
The Road Ahead
The road to recovery is not always smooth. There will be challenges along the way. However, Miguel’s story shows that with determination and support, it is possible to overcome obstacles. He remains committed to his sobriety and continues to inspire those around him.
Finding Strength in Adversity
Adversity can be a powerful teacher. Miguel has learned to find strength in his struggles. He understands that setbacks may occur, but they do not define him. Instead, they are opportunities for growth and learning.
Conclusion: A Message of Hope
Miguel’s journey is a testament to the power of hope and resilience. The Dallas 24 Hour Club has been a beacon of light in his life, guiding him toward a brighter future. His story reminds us that change is possible, and recovery is within reach.
If you or someone you know is seeking help, remember that support is available. There is a community ready to welcome you with open arms. Together, we can build a path to lasting sobriety and a fulfilling life.
